Books & publications
I have been writing for publication since 2004 and am the author of 270+ publications and the editor of hundreds more, primarily in my roles as Editor of BACP's quarterly magazine 'Children, Young People & Families' and Reviews Editor for BACP's monthly magazine 'Therapy Today'. My writing encompasses my knowledge and experience of psychotherapy and psychology, combining themes from my work with musings on modern life.
I've written five books, including three influenced by psychotherapy. I've also written scores of articles, editorials, columns, blogs, resources and reviews. Links to a selection of my published articles are included here. Please note that while the themes I write about are real and recognisable, all characters, dialogue and events are fictional.
You’re Not My
F*cking Mother

Described as compulsive reading for anyone concerned with the human psyche and the struggles of young adults in the modern world. This collection of vivid portraits about what goes on behind the therapy room door, illustrate how mothers show up in (almost) everybody’s psychotherapy (metaphorically speaking), and how they, their and our own backgrounds and baggage shape us all.

Stop F*cking Nodding

A book for anyone who knows, loves, is baffled by, or wants to help someone who is, has been, or is going to be 16. It's a collection of vivid short stories exploring sex, gender, body image, self-esteem, self-injury, loss and despair with frank dialogue, informed analytic understanding and (according to my editor) 'laugh-out-loud humour and mercurial charm'.
Reflective Practice
in Child &
Adolescent
Psychotherapy

This book models a thoughtful approach to understanding children and young people. It explores fantasy and lies, sex and identity, labelling, endings and loss. It is of interest to anyone who cares about young people’s mental health, which should be all of us.
